Inscribed Icon of the Mother of God "Look at humility"
History of the icon
Celebration on September 16/29
For the first time, the icon of the Mother of God "Ghosts of Humility" appeared in 1420 on the Stone Lake in the Pskov region. It can be assumed that this event took place to comfort and encourage the people of Pskov during the period of great calamity, the "pestilence" (famine), which exploded over the Pskov region at that time.
There is a mention of this image in the Pskov Chronicle:
"In the summer of 6934 (1426), in the same autumn, there was a sign from the icon of the Holy Mother of God, on the Stone of the lake, in Vasyl's yard: blood was coming from the right eye, and it dripped on the place where it stood, and on the way there was blood, as it was carried from the icon to the cloth, as in Pskov they carried the icon of the Most Pure, in the month of September at 4 p.m., in memory of the holy great martyr Euphemia."
The icon was transported to Pskov and kept in the Trinity Cathedral. In memory of this transfer, the celebration in honor of the icon was established on September 16/29. The ancient image of "Ghosts for humility" has not reached our days. In the 19th century, there is no mention of the ancient icon, which was in the Trinity Cathedral, and perhaps died during one of the natural disasters.
Few lists of the "Ghosts of Humility" icon are known.
One of them is from the end of the 17th century. is still located in the Kyiv Floriv Voznesensky Convent.
The second - the icon of the Mother of God "Ghosts of Humility" - decorates the main church in the Kyiv Saint-Introduction Men's Monastery.
Iconographically, the image of the Mother of God "Ghosts of Humility" belongs to the "Guide" type ("Hodigitria").
A miracle in Kyiv
The Icon "Ghosts of Humility" (19th century), which became famous for its miraculous phenomenon - a non-handmade impression on glass - was brought as a gift to the Vvedensky Temple in the fall of 1992 by Schemy nun Feodora. The monastic life in this monastery was just beginning at that time.
A special kiot was made, and the icon was installed in the temple, to the left of the iconostasis.
The image attracted the attention of believers with its extraordinary beauty, and they could stand in front of it in prayer for hours. Thanks to this icon, the Vvedensky temple itself became famous in the city.
In the summer of 1993, the abbot of the Vveden community, Igumen Damian, drew attention to the darkened colors of the icon, which is in a wooden frame under glass. It was decided to invite restorers to determine the reasons for the change in the paint layer. However, on August 1, on the day of memory of St. Seraphim of Sarovsky, when the frame with the glass was removed, everyone present saw that the tonality of the colors on the icon had not changed, and a wonderful silver print appeared on the back of the glass, which exactly repeated the silhouettes of the Mother of God and the Child.
As a result of the research of Kyiv scientists, it was established that the light gray print on the glass is of organic origin and is a non-man-made reflection of the Mother of God and the Child, which looks negative on a dark background, and positive on a white background.
This event was filmed in the video film "Kyiv miracle" directed by O. Lisovoy.
A glass with a reflection was installed in the kyoto next to the icon.
Healing began to take place from the icon itself and from its non-handmade imprint on the glass.
On November 22, 1995, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate decided to consider the Kyiv icon of the Mother of God "Ghosts of Humility" miraculous, with a celebration in her honor on September 16/29.
Every year on July 19/August 1, the day of the phenomenon of a miracle - a non-man-made impression on glass - is solemnly celebrated in the Holy Introduction Men's Monastery.
Modern miracles
One of the first confirmations of the miraculousness of the image was the case of the healing of a young woman who fell ill with hepatitis (jaundice) at the time when she was preparing to become a mother. The doctors who monitored the patient demanded an immediate termination of the pregnancy, believing that the disease would have a detrimental effect on the child's health. But the young woman, being a religious person, was afraid to take upon herself the sin of murder in the womb of her own child. For three days she prayed before the image of the Mother of God, asking for help. Soon, repeated tests were made, which showed a sudden stop of the disease. The girl who was born was absolutely healthy.
The news about the gracious help of the Queen of Heaven quickly spread throughout the country, and pilgrims began to flock from everywhere. Guests from abroad, Catholics and Protestants, also come to honor the Orthodox shrine.
In recent years, the miraculous icon has been invited to many places in Ukraine. And wherever she was, the power of God's grace from this holy icon was manifested in the healing of the sick, which the Mother of God provided from her multipurpose image.
Yes, a woman who suffered from toxicosis during pregnancy received treatment.
Then a blind woman was healed in Vilniansk, who was usually taken to church by her granddaughter. Clinging to the icon, she turned to the people and said: "People, I can see you all now.
