In addition to Christmas and Easter, Orthodox Christians celebrate holidays dedicated to events from biblical life. According to their number, they are called the twelfth holidays, and the icons dedicated to these days are called the icons of the twelfth holidays, respectively.

Of the twelve solemn days, nine are intransitive, i.e. are noted on fixed dates. The other three holidays are transitional, counting from Easter. The holidays themselves have several stages and consist of preparation for the solemn day, the actual celebration and the final day, the so-called dedication.
